HIPAA defines Protected Health Information (PHI) as any personally identifiable information in any format paper or electronic that relates to a person’s health status or condition. An X-Ray is included as a type of Protected Health Information (PHI) that should be protected according HIPAA regulations. Therefore, any entity that has X-Rays should include them in their retention schedule according to the recommended guidelines.
